Synopsis: This is a story about the inner world of a man with multiple personalities. His different personalities hurt each other after a series of events, and finally led to self-destruction.

The essence of multiple personality is the separation of psychological process, in which part of behavior and experience are kept separately. The successor personality is usually aware of the existence of the subject personality, but regards it as an object. When the separation is not complete, the subject personality may also be aware of the existence of another personality, but usually regards itself as “I”. Artist/ Director statement (concept of film) max 250 words:
In this project, the audience will participate in the animation production process by participating in the interactive device, looking for clues in each room, and finally unlock the truth of the story. The main technology used in the project is to make use of THE SCANNING and playing process of AR to bring the audience a sense of participation. The style of the work is darker than that of fairy tales. In order to highlight the contradictions of the protagonist’s multiple personalities, dark colors or strong contrast colors are selected. In addition to the ambient sound of the animation, I chose quiet music to contrast with the conflict.

Artist statement
We built an interactive device called “Flat M” to host our animation works. The interaction between the device and the audience builds an overall viewing experience. We explored the inner visual representation of multiple personalities. We reproduced his memories, stories, and experiences, allowing him to appear in front of the audience in a chaotic state, formally combined with the theme-reappearing the inner chaos and struggle of multiple personalities. This game requires the audience to randomly explore the entire building installation and collect clues from it to promote the development of the story and unlock the complete story step by step. We combine different people’s artistic style expressions to convey the same theme, which is vague but understandable.
In the demonstration film, we adopted the visual effects of old-fashioned silent movies, using old dim tones and interlaced editing effects to express a sense of amnesia and increase suspense.
At the same time, light and shadow play a big role in the film, using a strong contrast between light and dark to increase the drama of the film. We try to restore the audience’s live experience in the film, not to express all the elements in a moment, but to advance the story step by step and disorderly. This theme can be thought of as expressing a specific group, but we also think it can be felt by everyone. Multiple personalities are usually related to each person’s growth environment and may appear in different growth stages. We may need to hide our hearts, we should be taught how to behave, our multiple selves are destroyed, we will only obey the rules and mainstream of life. How many true selves have disappeared in this process?
Perhaps, each of us has a “Flat M” in our hearts.
